ADA 60 p for L046 Zebra plecos(8 in here), non CO2, no excel dosing.
Tank has not grown in obviously, but shall over time. The emergent growth has the benefits of plants, without algae, or CO2/dosing nutrient requirements.
The Bolbitus has done well, I did not think it would make it, but it has grown from small stumps and has 6 cm long leaves now. With time, this aquarium will blossom and fill in well. Trimming it a bit different. Water sprite grows very fast and is the main nutrient export. I also change the water weekly at about 40%. This unlike submersed planted non CO2 aquariums however.
The goal was more to have an aesthetic look, plants, large water changes for the rare $$$ fish, without any trade offs for the fish environment.
I can still see the fish under the wood, plants are very easy to care for.
When I have gone around looking at wood in natural places often, snags of wood sticking up would catch floating plants and grow out of the water just like this.

And

Fish are in there but hide.
100č CRS are also in there.
Bolbitus is growing without any CO2/Excel etc.
Regards,
Tom Barr |

When you come to Serbia you'll get from me a lily pipe, my production
Aquarium could be shallower with the fact that the plants out of water, but such are the dimensions of the ADA ... but it is very original and like it.
A real paradise for fish that swim beneath the plants.
If something I wrote well correct me because I used Google Translate |

I am local biotop geek, and I like all those submergent - emergent games and such an open concept of the tank. For some plants it is very difficult to classified them as only underwater.
All plants in my biotop aquarium are from the flooding area of the Drina River and I always let them to grow out of the water. It is very interesting that many of them are looking totaly different above the water comparing to the underwater form. I saw a lot of interesting combinations at the same plant. It started to devolop under water, then for some period of time above, and then again during the floods under...
Moreover, as an experiment, I put some classical field grasses and plants underwater . I saw them in quite a good condition under the water in the period of high water level of the Drina River...
Submergent or emergent - it is not up to us. Plant will choose by itself to stay in the water or to continue growing out of it.
What bothers me is that in our tanks plants have "so called" ideal conditions but in nature they live in very difficult conditions and they looked much nicer and healthier .
As an examle our "local" riccia lives in a muddy water in a close neighborhood with pigs sometimes at pH9,5 ! |

This tank is not finished.
2-4 months maybe.
Then the plants will be better and the concept fulfilled.
It is difficult to see the fish.
Fish are easy to see in person.
I do aquascapes for myself and clients, not for photographs or competitions. Judges and people on line rarely if ever would come and see these tanks in person.
To be fully appreciated, the aquarist must see the aquarium in person. I guess videos of the aquarium would help somewhat for internet viewing. I have not gotten around to using video. |

Tom, you are my big inspiration I have L-nambers for a while, and I did not know what I could do with them. After your topic, I am quite sure what I want. Thank you :p
I haven't L-46, but I have L-091 for example. Isn't that romantic č
Yes it is. I am going to do a setup for my L091 tonight. I will copy your ideal idea, it's luck that I have materials for that. Please, pay attention to my fish. I am verry happy

You' re so right! Aquarium is much more then just a scape prepared for final photo sesion. 2D photo can't expres all dinamics and 3D complexity of tank arrangement.
Tank prepared just for the final photo must obey strict rules to look good in 2D photo presentation.
Aquarium is dinamic and alive sculpture - not a photo...
